It is perhaps the most storied race track in motorsport, and it is here where Filipino driver, Marlon Stockinger gave us yet another reason to celebrate Pinoy pride today after finishing in a career high 2nd place in the Renault World Series.
After a disappointng start to the season with a 25-second penalty being added to his impressive climb through the field, rendering him P14 result in race 1, Marlon bounced back in Monza with a front row qualifying result and sealed it with his first podium in a Renault World Series car in race 2.
The 23 year old soaked up the pressure in the opening laps, then drove a mature race, adding this to his prestigious Monaco win in GP3 back in 2012, and making him the most successful Filipino driver since Dodjie Laurel's back to back win in Macau in 1962 and 1963.
The Renault World Series has been recognised as the main feeder series for Formula One, with drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Robert Kubica and Kevin Magnussen all graduating from there. And as Marlon is an official junior Lotus F1 driver, the dream of placing a Filipino in F1 just got closer.
